My mom had four children running around calling her Mom, on really hectic days, she would say she was going to change her name. I feel that way sometimes, but it is not my kids calling me mom that is the problem. And really, it's not the name I am called, it is the adjectives attached to it.
I am a Christian, a follower of Jesus of Nazareth. First of all, I reject the term fundamental Christian, because to follow Christ, you must hold certain fundamental beliefs. Non-believers and people who believe differently say that this is not the case. They claim Christianity is exclusionary because you are required to hold certain beliefs. This is like saying baseball is exclusionary if they won't let you play because you believe there should only be two bases and try to run home from second base.
There are many sects of Christianity, kind of like there are many flavors of potato chips. And like potato chips, some of them are good and some of them are not. I will not go into the different types of Christianity except to say that many do not display the attributes of Christ such as love, compassion, humility, patience, long-suffering, mercy, graciousness, gentleness, meekness, kindness, holiness, perfection, prayerful, submission, obedience, joy, peace and sensitivity to others. This is why you will hear people say things like "they are not real Christians", because a follower of Jesus should not be bigoted, unloving or judgemental. I'm not saying we are perfect, but we try to practice the attributes of Christ. So if hate is being preached from the pulpit, we have to question the source.
Christians do not want to take over the world, and although we are commanded by our Lord and Savior to spread the Gospel to world, we can not, in and of ourselves, save you or convert you. That comes from God.
So next time you post a comment bashing Christians, please consider the following; does this person reflect the Christ he claims to follow? If not, chances are he is not a real Christian.
